Reflection of the Course “Wood as tree and Forest”

When I first read the course topics I didn’t quite understood the topic of this course ,so I was very much interested to know about it. When I got deeper reading the description about the course I was really looking forward to learn something more about it .

Our first task for the course was to observe a tree at different times of the day. At first, I thought it was a stupid task but after the task was over I learned that there are so many things in the world which looks the same whenever we look but keeps continuously changing when we observe it .I understood the difference between Watching and observing.

We then saw some videos on youtube and movie that how trees are interconnected to each other. I first thought that all the rees in the forest were” competing against each other” but they were “surviving with each other” This video made me believe to the fact that “World is not about survival of the fittest but it is surviving with each other “

Our next task for the course was to write our own story and had to illustrate it. Even this task looked stupid to me and didn’t understood the importance  of this task in this project but however It helped me to illustrate the picture in my mind better.

Next task was to build a 18 feet tall structure using straws. This task was very interesting and important for me as I was always attracted to the structures of buildings and always wanted to know the logic to make a tall structure. This was a great task for me as I learned to work in a team and as a team and I got to understand the similarities of growth in humans and trees. However in this task we were not able to make 18 feet tall structure but however succeeded to make 14 feet tall .

The next and the final task was to go to Selum and had to live there for 3 days away from the city .It was a beautiful place and helped me come closer to the nature. Since childhood I always wanted to work for National geography living in the nature. This trip helped me a lot to give me the image and feeling how I always wished for since childhood. This also gave me the rough idea how it would feel like to live and work in forest. Working for nature and environment is not an easy task and it is tiring but the when the result of the work comes out it is the best feeling ever !  (Happiness just like when a tree grows from a little seed we buried under the ground before a couple of years) Living in nature for 3 days helped me realize how much we keep ourselves busy and away from ourselves that we often forget to live in the moment and enjoy the nature .This course really helped me to know myself a little better then I used to know before.
